Extreme heat doesn't need to damper your fun. Here's some tips to keep your last weeks of summer cool.

Mountain Lakes wants to make sure our members have the ultimate camping adventure while ensuring they stay safe from the sticky sun.

Drink Up!

Water should always be your main necessity when camping. Lack of water can lead to dehydration and several other problems when out in the sun too long.

Drink enough water to prevent being thirsty. Thirst is a sign of dehydration.

If you're out walking our hills or just strolling the park, make sure to drink water before, during and after your walk. Sports drinks with salts and other electrolytes are great too.

Eat Smart!

Eat at least 5 cups of fruits and vegetables a day for health but also for the amount of water and nutrient potassium provided.

If you're heading out for a long hike, snack on dried fruit and nut mixtures. These items provide large amounts of protein, sodium, potassium and more.

Sleep Time!

When sleeping in the heat, be sure to avoid direct sunlight.

Invest in a tent with plenty of ceiling mesh and sleep in loose/light clothing.

Double check to see if you can rent a campsite with electricity so you are able to use a window air conditioning unit for the tent doorway. The a/c takes away the body heat being built up in the tent.

Don't Forget the Sunscreen!

It's important to avoid getting burned by the sun especially on overcast days. Sunscreen should be one of your top priorities when stepping out in the sun. Why not bring a hat or even an umbrella to shield you from the direct sunlight and keep that sunscreen lasting.

Don't let the hot weather ruin your trip. Always stay hydrated and avoid wearing heavy clothing. Once you're all prepared for the heat, come out and join us for a camping treat!
